Audio Transcript:
Here’s your social selling tip of the day for February 1, 2020. I’m Greg Hyer of Linking into Sales.
Content curation, the activity of sharing content that is authored buy someone else is part of the daily life of a social seller. Such content can include blog posts, articles, videos, podcasts, infographics and more. This content can be very helpful for attracting prospects and personal branding. The most sophisticated social sellers used apps like Buffer, HootSuite, Sprinklr and others to not only monitor their social network activity but to schedule the sharing of that content. But how do you know what type of content you should share?
Here’s a simple rule to follow. It’s called the 70/20/10 Content Mix Rule. This is how it works:
70% of the content you share to your social network should be industry relevant content you’ve curated from the web. This can come from industry blogs, video management platforms, trade journals and more.
20% of the content you share should be from your own marketing department. If they don’t have content for you to share you may have to create your own. Just make sure you’re marketing department clears it before you share it on a social network.
10% of the content you share should be fun and interesting content. This content should show your personality. This could be photos from a restaurant or a tweet that includes something unrelated to the other two parts of this rules.
You can fluxuate the percentages as you see fit. But overall, your content curation mix should resemble these ratios.
Now when it comes to the content you’re sharing, make sure you are analyzing each piece’s engagement metrics. Any of the social media management platforms I shared above will provide you some engagement metrics. Understanding these metrics can help you understand which content mix is best for each social platform.
That does it for this social selling tip of the day. In addition to this daily tip, check out the Social Selling Podcast by Linking into Sales on iTunes, Google Play Music, Stitcher, YouTube and Tunein. You can even ask Alexa to play the Social Selling Podcast by Linking into Sales.
